Book Review: Tithing...test me in this by Douglas Leblanc

Book Review

Tithing by Douglas Leblanc

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse,
that there may be food in my house. Test
me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and
see if I will not throw open the floodgates
of heaven and pour out so much blessing
that you will not have room enough for it."
- Malachi 3:10

In these uncertain economic times, does it really
make sense to tithe?

Douglas LeBlanc thinks the answer is clear enough
in Malachi 3:10, where God goes so far as to tell us,
"Test me in this" The people profiled in this book
have done exactly that- and the effect on their lives
has been dramatic.

In these intimate journalistic portraits, LeBlanc
shows us true tithing in action. From members
of the clergy, to best selling authors, to social activists
both conservative and liberal, these are the lives
of real people who tithe in joy and plenty, in the
face of poverty and natural disaster, in community
and missionally, and as a spiritual practice comm
anded by God. They come from different back
grounds and live in varying degrees of financial
comfort; but they all tithe and wouldn't have it any
other way. Through their eyes, we come to under
stand this ancient practice as God's call to a life of
generosity, joy and compassion.

Our Review:
I can truly attest to many blessings we've received
through regularly paying our tithing honestly.Reading
through this book reminds us of what's important to
give back to Heavenly Father. All that he asks is 10%
back of every check that you get and how can one
say, no to so much blessings?

I've seen the days that we don't pay and you can
truly feel the difference. For instance, we are self
employed contractors and on a good week will get
a job or two when we pay our tithing. If something
comes up and dh decides that we can't pay it and
some other bill gets paid. The phones won't ring and
his bids won't go well. So from then on we made
sure to pay tithing first before anything else, no matt
er what our situation.

Consumer Tips: Reusing Newspapers

Do you have tons of newspapers lying around
after picking out your coupon inserts and what
nots?
I do, in fact it's around 10 or more
and it drives dh nuts sometimes because it
ends up sitting there for the whole week un
til I toss it in the recycling bins at our comp
lex. I knew of one way to reuse them, which is
using them to wash windows, glass surfaces &
mirrors. Our monthly newsletter from the office
highlights more uses for recycling yesterday's
news which I'd like to share with you today.

WAYS TO REUSE THE NEWSPAPER

1.] Paper packer- Use it as extra cushioning
when sending out your next packaging. saving
you money from paying them to package your
items then sending. This works great for me
when sending off items for giveaways!

2.] Eliminates Odors- This one is my fave.
Place a couple of pages on the bottom of your
kitchen trash bag to absorb spills and smells fr
om any leaks or tears in your garbage liner.

3.] Helps Ripening- Use it to wrap fruits & vegs
that haven't matured yet. Why? The ethylene gas
emitted by produce is trapped by the newspaper
which helps it to ripen more rapidly.

4.] Peeling Platform- Use a layer or two on a flat
surface (kitchen counter top or table.) to place the
peelings from carrots, potatoes, etc. After peeling,
simply fold up and toss!

5.] Reduce Moisture- Line your crisper drawers in
the refrigerator with newspaper to absorb moisture
and wipe out odors.

6.] Footwear- Drying out wet shoes? Stuff them w.
bunched up newspapers to help absorb the wetness
and help your shoes to dry faster.

Do you have tips for reusing the news? We'd love
to hear it!

shooting for a goal weight of 150 from 300.
Last week I weighed in at 301 and was determined
to go down from there and continually be moving

and no eating after 6 pm.

Before I wouldn't eat
breakfast and didn't snack throughout the day, ther
efore leaving me hungry and ravenous by the end
of the day eating whatever was in front of me and
not keeping a food journal to document all that I was
consuming on a daily basis.

So now if I can I'll wake up and go on an early morn
walk before I get the kids off to school and a bowl of
Milk with a fresh fruit. Snacks are either a Kashi bar
fresh fruits and vegetables. As that is what we only ha
ve stored in the kitchen now and tons of cold tap h20.
About 6 16 oz. of water in a Nalgene bottle from Brita.
which is about 96 oz. of water. I should be drinking
more according to my bmi.

Hips: 53.5   Chest: 49.4
