Five-Spice Shrimp
Classic Indian seasonings give this shrimp dish a fiery jolt. To satisfy all of your international desires, prepare a spicy appetizer for starters or end with a delicious dessert.
Serves 4

INGREDIENTS
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1-inch piece ginger
2 cloves garlic
1/8 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
2 medium tomatoes, pureed
1 pound large shrimp, shelled and deveined
2 1/2 cups cooked rice
Coriander sprigs

PREPARATION
Heat oil in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Sauté onion until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Grind ginger and garlic into a paste; add it and remaining spices and tomatoes to pan; simmer 5 minutes. In a separate pan, sauté shrimp 30 seconds. Add sauce and stir continuously on high heat, 2 or 3 minutes, until most of the liquid evaporates. Serve over rice. Garnish with coriander.

No More Q's From Red Plum In Sunday Paper

It looks like Red Plum/Valassis has announced that as of February 1st, 2009.
They're going to discontinue coupon inserts in many newspapers throughout
major U.S. cities. Instead of them appearing in the Sunday Papers. They
will be mailed to homes instead.

Thomas Murray, Vice President of the Valassis Corporation, whom owns
Red Plum, has issued this press release stating:

"Starting in February, the RedPlum coupon booklet will now be delivered in Cleveland through consumers' mailboxes along with their weekly grocery circulars and other savings and deals. By using direct mail, the RedPlum insert will now be able to reach almost twice as many Cleveland households as in the past. In these challenging economic times, it has never been more important to make these essential savings available to as many Clevelanders as possible so they can stretch the dollars in their wallets." -Thomas Murray, Vice President of the Valassis Corporation

These major U.S. cities have already had their Valassis/Red Plum Inserts pulled from major cities in,
Utah, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey,Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Maryland and Texas.
So we're going to be next on the list. I think that is the reason why we didn't recieve any in this paper..

The latest...

Yesterday was a super busy day for my family and I . My husband 

took us out to Hometown Buffet for Valentines. It's been a long while

since our family has gone out to eat, so the kids were really excited. 

Afterwards, I dropped dh off at home with the kids while I ran 

to our Church to help the Young Women leaders do our Valentines

Party for the girls. 

Tonite was awesome. We made rice krispies, cut them into shapes

with the cookie cutters, then we tried our hand at Bakerella's Red

Velvet Cake Balls. We didn't have the chocolate or red velvet cake

mixes, so we improvised with the Betty Crocker Brownie Mixes..

rolled them into balls then dipped them in the chocolate that 

we had accidentally burned in the microwave (due to excessive 

chatting, cleaning and laughing) 

Yes, it was fun, weird that the kids still wanted to eat the Brownie

balls that were dipped in somewhat burned Hershey's Milk Choco

late... ahh..what a night..next time it won't be burned..lol.

Sorry no pics. Didn't have time to take them..yes, that's how 

fast they all disappeared. Even with Lani's trays of Chip and Dip.

How Do You Save Money @ Home?

How do you save money at home? I'm still learning new ways 

to save at home. This is what I'm currently doing now. I'm 

sure that most of you are probably already doing these at home. 

If you have any more tips that you'd like to share with our 

readers, please do share..we luuv comments and more tips

from you!!

- I use paper plates and paper / plastic cups at home. I'm

just trying to find another way of not burning through my 

stash of dishwashing liquid. If we have guests, then were

not using the paper plates. 

- I've started using my dishwasher, doing my laundry and

running my dryer after 9 pm. to lower my water bill. 

- I use newspapers to clean the windows, glass and the 

mirrors at home with the newspapers I get my coupons 

from. 

-Yes, I recycle also!!
